By the Sågvägen industrial bridge there are about 5 guest berths where you can moor free of charge for up to 24 hours. Åkers kanal is the remains of the Långhundraled, a waterway the Vikings travelled when making their way from the Baltic Sea to Uppsala. At the Sågvägen industrial bridge the depth is about 2 metres.
Åkers kanal was built in 1822–1824 and the current lock gates are from 1914. The canal is a connection between Lake Garnsviken and Tunaviken in Trälhavet. The canal's length is 10.7 kilometres and the worked stretch is 3.7 kilometres. The bottom width is 8.9 metres and the unobstructed height is 2–3 metres.
During parts of 2022, the lock and Slussholmen in Åkers kanal in Åkersberga are being restored, and the lock is then closed. It is therefore not possible to get to or from Garnsviken via Åkers kanal, either by boat or canoe. It is also not possible to carry the canoe over Slussholmen.
