The Albert Engström Museum

The Farmstead

The farmstead (now the museum) was the artist's home in Grisslehamn. The family lived there year-round during 1902 to 1916, later only during the summer half of the year until his death in 1940. In the museum, the Engström home has been recreated as it looked around 1910, with its personal colour scheme and design. There are also paintings, graphics and a number of interesting and unusual objects. The museum also has a museum shop with products connected to Engström and Grisslehamn. Albert's magnificent Studio was built in 1907 and is of course part of the museum.

Visitors can walk around the farmstead/museum on their own and take in the information available. There are also staff on site who can answer questions.

On the upper floor of the museum there is an exhibition space that each year shows various exhibitions connected to Albert Engström and the surroundings.

On "Engström Day", which this year falls on 1 July, the Engström Prizes are awarded to someone within word, image, music or stage who has worked in Engström's spirit, as well as to a promising talent who has not yet turned 30.

The Illustrator's House

In the Illustrator's House, the former stable, Albert kept his Icelandic horse Rolf Krake, which he received as a gift during his trip to Iceland in 1911. Nowadays the premises are used for various cultural events, e.g. art exhibitions, lectures, a course venue for ceramics and art, a ceramics workshop and more.

The summer's activities and opening hours in the Illustrator's House will be decided later.

Guided tours in the Studio are held every hour on the hour. The first tour begins at 11:00 and the last at 15:00.

Events

On "Engström Day", Saturday 1 July at 12:00, the Engström Prizes are awarded.

The entertainment begins at 11:00. Free entry.

Every Wednesday evening in July at 19:00 (i.e. the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th), entertainment is offered in the Studio. Information about the programmes will be presented later and will also appear on the website. Tickets for the studio evenings can be bought at the museum for SEK 150 or booked by phone +46(0)175 308 90 and collected at the museum by 16:45 at the latest on the day before the studio evening in question.

Entrance fees

Entry to the Museum and the Studio including a guided tour SEK 120/person. Entry to the museum only SEK 60/person. Tickets can be bought at the reception by the Museum or in the Studio. Members and children under 16 in adult company enter free.

Guided tours for groups can be booked all year for the season 15 May - 15 October. For groups of up to 10 people the minimum fee is SEK 2000, plus SEK 140/person beyond that. For further information and bookings, contact the office on telephone +46(0)175 308 90

The Albert Engström Society

The society was formed in 1981 and runs the museum. Please support the society by becoming a member. Membership gives free entry to the museum and the Studio, a pleasant yearbook and a free trip to Åland with Eckerö Linjen. Membership costs SEK 275/year, SEK 400/year for a family and SEK 200/year for a person under 30. Membership applications are made to kontakt@albertengstrom.se.

The society's cultural programme is carried out in collaboration with ABF in Norrtälje.
