Albert Engström's studio

In order to be allowed to build the Studio so close to the sea, it had to be designed as a sea mark, a so-called landfall mark, so that seafarers could orient themselves by it to find their way into Grisslehamn. The Studio is therefore red-painted on the sides facing inland but white on the sides facing the sea. Albert writes: "Now my studio is finished. It is exactly as I want it and lies just where I want it. There my friends shall stay when they come to visit, and fall asleep to the most beautiful music there is."

The Studio was used not only as a "guest cottage" and party venue for the family's friends and artist colleagues, but also as a dance hall for the local youth.

In the Studio, which was set up as a museum by his son Lars Bruno, there are unique oil paintings, drawings and graphic prints by Albert and many of his friends and artist colleagues. There is also a collection of unique objects that Albert gathered during his many travels. Knowledgeable guides tell of Albert's life. Visitors get to hear about the artist, author, member of the Swedish Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts, editor of the magazine Strix and more. The view over the Sea of Åland is captivating.

Every Wednesday evening in July, entertainment is offered in Albert Engström's Studio.

In Ateljéviken there are excellent bathing opportunities with a lovely sandy beach and rocks. The area has been untouched since Albert's time.
