A Paradise for Birds at Angarnssjön

Angarnssjöängens nature reserve is one of Stockholm's finest bird lakes and an ideal destination for both beginners and experienced bird watchers. The lake is surrounded by open agricultural landscape with grazed meadow shores, forested heights and flowering pastures. Here you can experience rich bird life year-round – from wigeon and cranes in spring to migrating species in autumn.

Follow Sjöängsslingan, a nearly seven-kilometre hiking trail around the lake, or visit Midsommarberget and the bird tower for great views. The area also offers nature experiences both day and night – camping, grilling at the designated barbecue spots and following the dawn to see shy animals. A paved path with a wheelchair ramp leads to the viewpoint at Byksberget.

The landscape bears traces of approximately 4000 years of human settlement, from Bronze Age rock carvings to medieval archaeological remains. The lake has undergone extensive restoration to recreate natural seasonal variations in water level, which benefits both bird life and preserves the character of the pastures.

Dogs must always be kept on a leash. Parking is available at Örsta and at other locations (Olhamra, Kusta, Skesta). Accessible by both Roslagsbanan and car.
