Ängsö National Park

A floral paradise in the heart of Roslagen

Ängsö National Park is located in the heart of Roslagen and is known for its rich floral displays and pristine nature. The island is only accessible by boat – you can arrive in your own boat, by kayak or take regular tours from Stockholm and Furusund during spring and summer. Well-maintained trails lead you through meadows and forests, and in summer it is possible to travel with a stroller on rough gravel paths.

Ängsö is a paradise for bird lovers with many species including nesting lesser spotted woodpeckers, woodpeckers, white-tailed eagles and tawny owls. Large parts of the island's eastern side are a bird protection area with access prohibited from February to mid-August. Bring binoculars, a coffee basket and drinking water – there is no café on the island, but there is a rest area and rest shelter at Hemudden. You can camp at a designated spot for a maximum of two nights at Norrviken.

During spring and early summer, guided tours are offered starting at Hemudden (approximately 1h 15 min – 1h 30 min, 100 SEK/adult, free for under 18 years). Book by noon the day before at angso.stockholm@lansstyrelsen.se. Currently, extensive restoration of old meadows and pastures is underway as part of the EU project LIFE RestoRED – this will create flower-rich meadows valuable for both nature and visitors.
