Båtsmanstorpet

The centre of the activity is the boatswain's croft in Oxhalsö on the northern part of Blidö, by the ICA shop. The boatswain's croft has been in the same place and, broadly speaking, looked the same since the 1730s. It is owned by the Oxhalsö village association and has therefore never been subjected to the rebuilding and extensions in the way that the soldiers' and boatswains' crofts that became summer cottages have. The boatswain's croft was thoroughly renovated under expert guidance from the County Museum a number of years ago and has since been furnished as it probably looked in the late 1800s, when the last boatswain, August Sjöblom Skog, lived there with his wife Josefina and eight children. At the boatswain's croft, the heritage association arranges various programmes every summer. On these occasions, the exhibitions "The last boatswain August Sjöblom Skog and his family", "Selma – the eldest daughter marries", "War – and what did the women do" about the Housewives' Association, and "The maid Elin – the letter from Kolsvik 15 years later" are also shown. According to the purpose clause in the statutes, Blidö Parish Heritage Association shall protect and care for the local environment and its cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations. The association shall also be active in current issues concerning the development of the area for future generations.
