Bergshamra lies on Bergshamraviken bay south of Norrtälje — a place that has moved: today's centre grew up at Hästängen, while Old Bergshamra, with its mill and guest house, remains a little way off.

About Bergshamra

A Place in Two Locations

Bergshamra is divided. What is associated with the place today is the area Hästängen, which previously lay outside Bergshamra proper — here you'll find the sawmill, the grocery store and the health centre.

The original settlement is today called Gamla Bergshamra. When it was the main centre, it had a dairy, school, guest house, fire station and a flour mill. The mill farm building remains and is now a heritage homestead.

By the Bay

The place is located by Bergshamraviken, with a boat club and a larger holiday home area. The population increases during the summer when holiday guests arrive.

There is also a sawmill and two boat yards here — Bergshamra is one of the places in Roslagen where boat building is still a living trade and not just a memory.

Morastugan — listed building.
Kvarngården — the old flour mill in Gamla Bergshamra, today a heritage homestead.
