Along a 500-metre trail in Finsta, near the birthplace of Saint Birgitta, visitors encounter quotations from her writings in lush nature — a peaceful walk where medieval history and landscape blend together.
Saint Birgitta's Homeland
Finsta in Roslagen is associated with Saint Birgitta (1303–1373), one of Sweden's most renowned medieval figures and the patron saint of Europe. Birgitta grew up at Finsta farm, and it is here that the beginning of her life and work can be traced.
The Trail
The Birgitta Trail is approximately 500 metres long hiking path that stretches between Birgittakällan and Skederids Church. Along the route, signs are placed with quotations from Birgitta's many revelations — texts that provide insight into her thoughts and faith during the 14th century. The walk passes through lush nature with open views over the Roslagen landscape.
A Historic Pilgrimage Site
The stretch is short but rich in content — a quiet walk in a historic setting where nature, the stories of the place and Birgitta's words accompany you along the way. The trail works well as a complement to a visit to Norrtälje or as a destination in itself.
