Bogesundslandet nature reserve

Bogesundslandets Nature Reserve is located in Vaxholm Municipality and is an area that was established to preserve valuable natural and cultural environments. The reserve is part of the EU's Natura 2000 network and offers everything from forests and beaches to cultural landscapes with high recreational value.

The area consists of varying natural habitats — coniferous forests, deciduous forests and wetlands along several fjords. There are also traces from prehistoric times, from the Bronze Age and Iron Age, as well as old farm settlements. A particularly valuable area is Dammstakärret, where the wetland is a popular bird-watching paradise with rich bird fauna.

Bogesundslandet has long been known as a nature paradise near Stockholm — already in the 1950s it was described as a place where city dwellers could seek restoration. The area is characterized by its rich history, from Bogesunds Castle built in the 1600s to Frösvik in the west, where the Oxenstierna family had their manor.
