Finnhamn - Kålgårdsön

Finnhamn is one of the archipelago's most versatile islands. There is also a country store, a steamboat jetty, a sauna, sports pitches, high-ropes activities - rowing boats, kayaks and SUP boards to hire. Finnhamn is a nature reserve with walking-friendly paths that wind across the lush island with both cultivated land and deciduous trees mixed with beautiful rocky outcrops. There are many different types of nature in a small area. Finnhamn has unusually plenty of deciduous forest for being so close to the barren outer archipelago. This means, among other things, a rich bird life. On Idholmen there is an organic farm - Idholmen's Farm, with cows, hens, summer pigs, vegetable cultivation and a farm shop to visit. In 1914, a well-to-do coal merchant in Stockholm had a summer retreat built high up on a rock slab with a sweeping view. In the villa he called Utsikten (the View), Finnhamn's hostel has now been located for many years. East of Finnhamn lies Särsö. The island is part of the nature reserve and has a rich cultural landscape. Särsö's meadows with their stone walls are a fantastic setting with a rich meadowland flora thanks to grazing animals and haymaking. Here, among other things, bird's-foot trefoil, milkwort and harebell bloom. Thanks to the fact that former Husarö residents have cultivated and had pastures on Särsö for hundreds of years, and that the farm tenant at Idholmen's Farm has now taken over, Särsö has a unique cultural landscape. Finnhamn is open to visitors all year round. The island is served by Waxholmsbolaget with hovercraft traffic in winter. Kålgårdsön: Kålgårdsön is a separate nature reserve, and the former cultivated land, which has historically been used by farmers on Ingmarsö, has been cleared and is today kept open by grazing animals from Idholmen's Farm. Kålgårdsön has a large roe deer population, other wild animals, wild nature and hilly terrain. Between Ingmarsö and Finnhamn runs the boat-hikers' trail. Here you can row between Kålgårdsön and Idholmen in one of the Archipelago Foundation's boats. For those with their own boat, there are several wind-sheltered natural harbours. Follow the signs along the Kålgård loop or the Boat-hikers' trail. The nature reserve also includes the smaller islands Klippingen, Knokan and Bockholmen. Waxholmsbolaget serves Finnhamn all year round, but the boats do not run as often throughout the year. Raise the semaphore on the jetty if you want to travel! The jetty is not accessibility-adapted.
