Finsta - the birthplace of Saint Bridget

According to tradition, Saint Bridget was born in Finsta in 1303, and it was also here that she had her first revelations. In 2003, the great Bridget Jubilee was celebrated in Finsta and throughout the country.

Saint Bridget was the daughter of the lawman Birger Persson, who was King Birger's confidant and owned Finsta. Bridget lived at Finsta during her first 11 years of life. After her mother's death, Bridget moved to her aunt in Östergötland. Bridget was married off when she was 13 years old. Bridget was Sweden's first female author and the only Swede to have founded a monastic order. She died in Rome in 1373 and was canonised by Pope Boniface IX on 7 October 1391. On 7 October every year, Bridget Day is celebrated in memory of Saint Bridget. On 1 October 1999 she was named a patron saint by the Pope.
