Here you encounter a Norrland in miniature. Extensive bogs with islets of old-growth forest give you a varied experience, and many species get the biodiversity they need. In spring the black grouse's lek can be heard on the bogs, the capercaillie has its lek on pine islets in the area, and high above visitors sea eagles often soar. There are about 20 km of well-marked trails, several rest areas, cabins and barbecue spots open to you. You can also hire the camp ground Risön or the cottage Västergärde. A loop of the orange-marked Uppland Trail runs through the reserve. The loop is 10 km long and you suitably start at Stormon in the southern part of the area, or at Risön. If you want to move off the paths, it is best to come here in winter and ski out over the frozen bogs. The reserve is the county's largest and is located about 10 km NNW of Österbybruk.
