Frötuna Church

That the Norse god Frö was worshipped at this place is clearly evident, and it was natural to build a Christian church on the same site. The church was built in its current form during the first part of the 1400s, although the oldest parts date from the 1100s. Saint Olof became the church's patron saint. The colourful Olof sculpture is a copy of the original, which today is at the Museum of History in Stockholm. No traces of paintings have ever been found in Frötuna Church, but it has instead many fine wooden sculptures from the Middle Ages. The altar cabinet is also from this time. In the porch behind the medieval screen there is a chapel, which through an opening has contact with the church room. Beneath the vault is Sten Sture's coat of arms.
