Gillberga gryte

According to legend, the rockfall was formed when a miner was going to open a mine but instead blew both himself and the rock to pieces. There are several small caves you can enter. The largest begins in a crevice a few metres above ground level. The narrow opening soon widens into a hall 8 metres high, 10 metres long and 4 metres wide. Rumour has it that the cave was used as a hiding place during the Russian raids in the archipelago in 1719. Robbers are also said to have had their haunt here. Geologists believe the cave was formed when the inland ice left the area. Tips for visitors: The path from the car park to the gryte is about 1 km and consists of rough terrain and bog. Therefore, hiking boots or rubber boots are recommended. For those planning to enter the cave or climb on the boulders, caution is recommended, as well as a helmet, good shoes, a head torch, knee pads and company.
