Granlidens nature reserve

The area is located near the village of Norrskedika, 5 km NW of Östhammar. The soil in the area is calcareous, and shallow and mobile groundwater provide excellent conditions for a lime-loving flora of vascular plants and soil fungi. Conifers dominate the tree layer and the area is a good representative of calcareous coniferous forest with its characteristic species. The area has a swampy forest character in large parts. The relatively dense and waterlogged forest creates a stable microclimate with high air humidity. This condition has led to the development of abundant moss coverage, which gives character to the forest. Dead wood in the form of fallen trees and standing dead trees occurs sparsely as the forest is managed. However, old thick spruce and old pine occur abundantly. The southern part appears to be more undisturbed. The area's natural values are primarily linked to its rich ground fungi flora. Examples of species include hedgehog fungus, bitter tooth fungus, amethyst deceiver, pale finger fungus, wood woolly-foot, flat-topped club fungus and Denise's spindle fungus. The field layer is often very lush with species such as bridal plume, green hellebore, dog-tooth violet, bog asphodel, daphne, spring sedge, pellitory-of-the-wall, cloudberry and self-heal.
