At Badviken on the island's southern part there is a shallow and child-friendly beach. You can also swim at Ångbåtsbryggan and Skånebryggan. Gräskö Handel in Byviken is open during the summer season. In the waiting house by Ångbåtsbryggan is the island's ever-open library. There you top up the range with your own books and gladly borrow others. No library card is needed. In the old post house in Byviken, families on summer holiday run a popular café, often with home-baked goods and freshly made waffles. In the waiting house by the steamboat jetty, photo exhibitions are shown. The boatyard on the island fixes everything for the leisure boats. Several operators on the island offer freight and transport. Gräskö was long a grazing islet to which sheep and cows were transported for summer grazing. The cows were milked by crofters. From the 1500s onwards, Gräskö belonged to Penningby manor, which lay by a sea bay (today by the exit to Furusundsvägen). But in 1838 an event occurred that became decisive for the island's future. The two crofters Anders Sjöblom and Anders Löfgren bought their freedom from Penningby and divided Gräskö between them, with all its associated islets and skerries, into two equally large parts. Several property subdivisions later, these two lots have been transformed into 130 properties. The profession of the peasant-fisherman, which was a mix of fishing and hunting paired with small-scale farming, ceased. The permanent residents on Gräskö now serve the summer people with everything they need help with. A win-win situation that requires large and rapid movements between the towns on the mainland and the island world. The number of permanent residents on Gräskö has increased to nearly 30 people, i.e. about as many as lived here year-round 70 years ago. Through a voluntary agreement between the property owners on Gräskö, motor vehicles are used only for utility traffic, e.g. building work and transport. Passenger transport of people with normal mobility is not usually counted as utility traffic. A defibrillator is in the post house/café. Always call 112 first. A helicopter pad for the ambulance helicopter is on the meadow north of Gräskö Boatyard. But the ambulance helicopter always seeks the nearest landing place. Waxholmsbolaget regularly serves the Stockholm-Gräskö route in summer. In autumn and spring the route is served only at weekends. But the Furusund-Östernäs-Gräskö route is served all year round. And throughout the year it is possible to travel between Norrtälje and Gräskö on weekdays. The easiest way is to take a bus from Norrtälje to Furusund and from there a Waxholm boat to Gräskö. Raise the semaphore on the jetty if you want to travel with the boat! Gräskö jetty is not accessibility-adapted, but there is a bench to sit on. A shop and kiosk are nearby, but may have limited opening hours.
