The foundation of the present church was built by Anders Johansson in 1695–97, when the porch was also built. The church was consecrated in 1697. The sacristy was built in 1753 as part of the restoration that was necessary after the Russian raids of 1719.
The church was restored for the 300th anniversary in 1997. The church is built of horizontal timber on a base of cobblestone. The red-painted shingle cladding that today protects the walls' timber was put in place somewhat later than the church. The original roof was shingle-covered but was replaced in 1906 with iron sheeting.
