Gräsö — Nature Experiences and Local Food on Roslagen's Outermost Island

With a free car ferry from Öregrund, you reach Gräsö in just a few minutes. The ferry operates the route daily year-round, and right at the ferry terminal you are met by Gräsö gårds nature reserve — a 310-hectare reserve with flower-rich pastures, grazing cows along the shores and untouched rocky cliffs. The information centre at the farm provides tips about excursion destinations and tells you about the island's natural and cultural landscape.

Just 1.5 km north along Gräsövägen from the ferry terminal lies Naturfantastens farm shop and nostalgia café, open year-round. The shop is run by Ellinor and her husband and is filled with Swedish, preferably locally produced delicacies, drinks, handicrafts and food products — as natural as possible. Fika and light lunch are served in a genuine rural setting. Next to the shop there are also parking spaces for motorhomes.

The bicycle is the perfect way to explore the island. The medium route of just under 20 km takes approximately 2.5–3 hours at a leisurely pace and runs through villages, forest and coastal landscape. Cycling guides are available at the tourist office in Öregrund and at Gräsö gårds hostel, where you can also hire bicycles.

The nature on Gräsö is varied and accessible. The bathing spot Storsand south of Mårtensboda offers sand, gravel and smooth rocky cliffs. At Kattskär there is a fireplace with firewood storage and views towards Öregrund. Askskärsleden north of Norrboda leads into old coastal forest along a partially wooden walkway trail. At the very south of the island lies Idöns nature reserve with several marked trails.
