Bonfire sites in Östhammar's archipelago and inland

Östhammar municipality stretches from the Uppsala coast with islands and skerries in the east to forest and the industrial heritage village of Österbybruk in the west. Throughout the municipality there are opportunities to grill and sit around open fires in nature, at designated bonfire sites and along marked hiking trails.

Municipal bonfire sites

Östhammar municipality has prepared bonfire sites in connection with outdoor activities and nature areas. Sites with windbreaks and grilling facilities are available for example in connection with sledding slopes and outdoor areas in Gimo, Östhammar and Öregrund. Right of public access and fire regulations

Under the right of public access it is permitted to light a small fire on ground that is not fire hazardous, but the responsibility always rests with the person lighting the fire. During periods of high fire risk, fire bans can be issued by the Greater Stockholm Fire Department or Uppsala County Administrative Board — always check the current situation before lighting a fire. During summer, generally increased caution applies in forests and fields.

Tips for visitors

Feel free to combine your grilling session with a nature visit — Harvikadammen outside Österbybruk, Öregrundsgrepen and the archipelago islands offer beautiful settings. Bring your own firewood or wood basket if the wood supply at the site is empty, and always leave the site in better condition than you found it.
