Respect the Cultural Heritage

Roslagen is rich in ancient monuments, old jetties, fishing villages and ruins. Do not climb on ancient monuments or older stone cairns – they are protected under the Cultural Heritage Act and can be permanently damaged. Always close gates behind you in pasture land; open gates are a problem for the farmers and livestock owners who keep the landscape open.

Nesting Season and Wildlife

During spring and early summer – roughly March to mid-July – many bird species nest along the shores and in the archipelago islands. Keep your distance from bird colonies and seal resting areas. Seals that appear sick or alone should not be touched; leave them alone and instead contact the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's information service if you are concerned.

Responsible Boating in the Archipelago

Keep low speed when passing jetties, natural harbours and shallow bays – wake waves erode shores and disturb nesting birds at the water's edge. Several sensitive areas in Roslagen's archipelago have local speed restrictions and anchoring bans; check the nautical chart and the County Administrative Board's regulations before you anchor.

Consideration for Local Residents

In Roslagen, the same road often leads to a bakery, bus stop, jetty and bathing place. For visitors it may feel charming – for the locals it is everyday life. Park in designated areas, not on private driveways. Feel free to stop and enjoy the view, but move aside so others can pass. Make room for the local community's daily life.
