Hargshamn

A community shaped by iron

Hargshamn arose as a shipping port for bar iron from Hargs bruk and for ore from the Dannemora mine to the west. The iron was reloaded here and transported onwards to Stockholm and out into the world. The historic harbour warehouse Järnboden, erected in 1758, still tells that story — beautifully located by a calm sea inlet and open for art exhibitions during the summer.

Hiking along the pilgrim trail

The Viking Trail, part of the St Olav Way, passes through Hargshamn's landscape. Along the trail you encounter the Harg stone — a rune stone — and the well-preserved village environment of Braxenbol, before you reach Järnboden and the harbour. It is a walk that places the works era, the Viking Age and coastal life in a single context.

Bathing, nature and calm

Hargshamns Bad & Camping offers a sandy beach and bathing opportunities, and the little guest harbour invites a calmer pace. Myran's path is a short nature loop of 250 metres, easily accessible for everyone and good for families with prams. Folkets Hus arranges activities and events all year round for all ages.

Hargshamn is a hidden gem for those who want to combine industrial history with coastal nature in Östhammar's archipelago.
