Häverö is an old cultural district, and the church is built on a cult and assembly site from the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The present church was built in the 1300s.
Häverö Church is one of the churches in Roslagen with the most paintings. There are painted people and events on both walls and vaults. The church also has one of the oldest depictions of a nyckelharpa, Uppland's instrument. On the large altar cabinet there is a dramatic depiction of the life of Jesus, a masterpiece made in the 1500s in Antwerp. The church also has an image of Saint Bridget. Häverö Church's bell tower is one of the oldest in Uppland and has clear medieval features.
