The Place That Changed Its Name for the Post Office

Häverödal was originally called Häverösund. In 1934, the place officially changed its name — the reason was practical: the post office confused Häverösund with Härnösand.

The community grew as a station settlement on the Rimbo–Sunds Railway and had around 760 inhabitants at the beginning of the 1930s.

The Winter Sports Destination

What makes Häverödal worth a visit today is located at Lundåsvallen: a ski stadium with trails, and a mountain bike track. It is one of few places in Roslagen where winter sports have their own facilities — worth knowing in a landscape where most things close when the season ends.

Häverö Parish

Häverödal is located in Häverö Parish, together with Hallstavik and Herräng. The name was written in 1344 as Hæwer and is an original island name: the first part is haver, "billy goat", which gives the interpretation "Goat Island".

The parish encompasses a peninsula between Edeboviken and Väddöviken — a forested region with ravines and patches of cultivated land. Here there are scattered burial mounds from the Bronze Age, about thirty burial grounds from the Iron Age, and remains of a couple of furnace ruins and mine holes.
