Historic walk in Öregrund

About the Walk

Öregrund is one of the best-preserved wooden towns on the Uppsala coast, with a town centre that has largely retained its character from the 18th and 19th centuries. The self-guided town walk leads visitors along a route marked with signs at 19 historic buildings and places, where each stop tells the story of the building's history, the people who lived there, and the town's development through the ages.

The walk is designed to be done at your own pace without a guide — a map shows the location of the signs and makes it easy to plan your own stroll through the town centre.

What to See and Experience

Along the route, visitors pass Prästgården, Societetshuset, Klockstapeln, Hembygdsgården, Öregrunds Church, Sjövillan and Poppelgården — together telling a broad story of merchants, seafarers and the role of the church in the small coastal town. At each sign, historical information is provided on site.

Please note that several of the buildings along the walk are privately owned residences. The walk takes place on public land and respect for private property is important throughout the route.

How to Get There

The starting point for the walk is located at Telegrafgatan 11, 742 42 Öregrund. Öregrund is reached by car via road 76 and the exit towards Öregrund, approximately 18 kilometres east of Tierp. A map of the walk can be downloaded from Östhammars kommun's website. Parking is available adjacent to the town centre.
