Norrtälje city has a green heart that is easy to reach on foot — from nature reserves and forest trails to walks along the river and out to the sea.
Vigelsjö Area — Nature Reserve in the Middle of Town
Vigelsjö Nature Reserve is located just under two kilometers northwest of Norrtälje city center and is one of the most visited outdoor areas in the municipality. Here you'll find the well-marked Vigelsjö Trail (3 km) and Knutby/Färsna Trail (2 km), which can be combined into a roughly 11.5 kilometer long hike. At Vigelsjö Farm there is a grill area with a view, and five boule courts are open to everyone. Roslagsleden, which stretches along the entire Roslagen coast, also passes through the area.
The River Promenade and Water Close to Town
Along the Norrtälje River you can stroll from the city center out towards the guest harbor and further towards Kärleksudden. From there a bridge leads out to Borgmästarholmen — a well-kept promenade with views over Norrtälje Bay and a popular destination for a short excursion in the middle of the week.
The Tranquility of Societetsparken
Societetsparken is a classic city park with trees, walking paths and proximity to the water that makes it suitable for a moment of recuperation. The park connects the river with the guest harbor and provides a smooth transition between the urban environment and the coastal promenade.
Norrtälje is a good choice for those who want to enjoy nature without needing to take the car — several of the municipality's outdoor areas are walkable directly from the city center.
