Roslagen is an excellent destination for dogs and dog owners. The long coastlines, forest walks and sparse population density inland make the region one of the more dog-friendly tourist destinations in the Mälaren valley. Outside bathing areas during summer (15 June–15 August), dogs are welcome in most natural areas.

Nature reserves and outdoor life

In Roslagen's 211 nature reserves, dogs are welcome (on leash) year-round. Choose reserves with varied terrain – boulder beaches, noble deciduous forests and open pastures give your dog plenty to sniff.

Many of Roslagen's campsites accept dogs. Always confirm with the campsite in advance, especially during high season:

During the period 1 September–14 June, dogs are welcome on most beaches in Roslagen. Throughout the summer season, cliff beaches and skerries in the outer archipelago offer areas rarely crowded with visitors – perfect for a dog walk. Note that bathing areas with posted dog bans apply year-round.

Tips for your dog trip to Roslagen

• Tick protection: Roslagen is one of Sweden's regions with the highest tick population. Treat your dog with tick prevention before your visit.
• Leash requirement in reserves: Dogs must be kept on a leash in most nature reserves, regardless of season. Check signage on site.
• Archipelago islands: Several islands have bird protection areas (April–July) where dogs are prohibited. Check the County Administrative Board's map.
• Drinking water: Bring water for your dog – fresh water sources are rare out on the islands.
