Husarö

Pilot operations were conducted on Husarö from the 1400s until the early 1900s. The Husarö Pilot and School Museum is located in the Sundström Pilot's Manor. The island has inspired authors Elsa Beskow and Stieg Larsson, and Elsa Beskow's house remains on the island; it was here she found inspiration for the book Putte's Adventures in the Blueberry Forest. Husarö has several bathing spots, including Sandholmen, Badviken, Bockholmen and Kallviken. On the island you can also fish, hike and stay overnight in the cottage village. Husarö has several historically and culturally significant buildings. Every year scout camps are held at the old scout manor, which is also rented out for conferences, school classes and other activities. On the last Saturday in July, Husarö Day is celebrated with, among other things, the Husarö Marathon around the island, archipelago market and a showing of the pilot museum. You can reach Husarö by Waxholmsbolaget and Cinderellabåtarna from Stockholm or by water taxi, among other places from Klintsundet on Ljusterö. Waxholmsbolaget operates Husarö year-round, but boats do not run as frequently throughout the entire year. Raise the semaphore on the pier if you want to board. The pier is not accessibility adapted.
