Kyrksjön is located in Norrtälje Municipality in Uppland, at only four meters above sea level. The lake has a surface area of just over one square kilometer and reaches a maximum depth of 14.4 meters.
The lake is part of the main drainage area of the Norrtäljeå river, and the water flowing out from Kyrksjön travels through a total of two watercourses before reaching the sea – a distance of just under six kilometers.
Surrounding landscape
The drainage area around Kyrksjön is largely covered by forest, which makes up approximately 62 percent of the area. The rest consists of agricultural land and open terrain, which gives the area a varied character with both wilderness and cultivated landscape.
