Lidö — family idyll in the archipelago
Lidö Nature Reserve north of Norrtälje attracts visitors with cliff bathing, flowering meadows and archipelago farming. The island is managed by the Archipelago Foundation and offers accommodation, a restaurant and activities for the whole family.
Nature Reserve with a Long History
Lidö is located at the entrance to Norrtäljeviken and belongs to the Archipelago Foundation. The island has a rich history: in the 1600s, Bengt Oxenstierna built a Baroque castle that was destroyed in 1719. The manor house was rebuilt in 1769 and is today a landmark on the island. Stockholm city later purchased the island for a summer residence and it was long owned by the city's residents.
Activities and Nature
On Lidö, those seeking nature experiences will find rock bathing, beaches and flowering meadows. The island has walking paths along the entire shoreline, canoe, SUP and small boat rentals, a sauna and wood-fired bathing barrels. Kanonberget offers a wide view over the archipelago from its summit. Archipelago farming with animals and opportunities for bird watching make Lidö especially interesting for families.
Food and Accommodation
The manor house building contains a restaurant with award-winning archipelago cuisine. Accommodation is available in a hostel, solar-powered cottages and at a campsite. A natural harbour is available for those arriving by private boat.
Getting There
Waxholmsbolaget operates scheduled ferries to Lidö year-round. There is also a water taxi from Räfsnäs dock. By car, drive E18 towards Kapellskär and park at Räfsnäs dock.
