Ljusterö

On Ljusterö there is a golf course, museums, art and craftspeople, farm shops, restaurants and accommodation. Östra Lagnö's unique nature reserve lies in the outer archipelago and yet can be reached by car or SL bus. Here the light is fantastic, the Roslagen nature enchanting and the view towards the horizon captivating. The floral splendour in spring and early summer is wonderful. Every season has something to offer. Enjoy the bathing rocks on the bedrock that formed over a billion years ago. The entire walking loop is adapted for wheelchairs and prams, and there is also an adapted fishing jetty. Many famous artists such as Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors and J.A.G Acke were inspired by Östra Lagnö, which was called the Skagen of the Archipelago. Even today Ljusterö is an artists' island – do visit Ljusterö Art Museum Don't miss Ljusterö's white-painted octagonal wooden church by the church lake in Mellansjö in the middle of the island. The church was originally a chapel from the 1750s. It was rebuilt, got its tower and a wholly new design in 1894. Linanäs is a popular part of the island. Here there are many beautiful turn-of-the-century houses, restaurants, a café, a grocery shop, a steamboat jetty, a guest harbour, a child-friendly beach and rock bathing with magnificent views over Saxarfjärden. Here you can also play boules and tennis, or take a walk on the nature trail with a fairytale path for children. Do visit the genuine fishing village of Laggarsvik and enjoy the archipelago setting. From the viewpoint on Ljusterö head, in clear weather you can see three Swedish miles straight out into the archipelago or look towards Stockholm and see Globen. On the mountain top there are remains of a large concrete foundation for cannons from the Second World War. The world-famous opera star Jussi Björling often stayed on Ljusterö and on Siarö, where he had his summer paradise. Recurring summer events on Ljusterö include Opera at the boatyard at Ramsmora boatyard. You can get to Ljusterö by car, bus, Waxholmsbolaget, other archipelago boats or your own boat. The car ferry is free and serves the Östanå ferry landing on the mainland all year round. Waxholmsbolaget serves Ljusterö all year round, but the boats do not run as often throughout the year. Raise the semaphore on the jetty if you want to come aboard! Linanäs Linanäs jetty is not accessibility-adapted, but there is a bench to sit on while you wait for the boat. Near the jetty there is both a shop and a kiosk, but the opening hours may be limited. A public accessibility-adapted toilet is available at the jetty. There are no parking spaces adjacent to the jetty.
