Lohärad Church originally dates from the 1200s. In the 1700s the church's tower collapsed, taking with it a large part of the church in its fall, including the porch. A new one was built from the remains of the tower, but it took another 60 years before they could afford to finish the church.
Baron Taube at Christineholm gave a remarkable gift to the church in the form of a magnificent Baroque bed with cherubs. Today we see the headboard of the state bed as a frame around the crucifix by the altar. The fine medieval cabinet that once adorned the altar is today at the Museum of History. During a restoration of the church in 1929, small remains of medieval paintings were found. The bell tower that stands by the church was rebuilt in 1838 from having been a simpler tower into one with a balcony and lantern that today gives an excellent view over the district. The full renovation of the bell tower was completed in the summer of 2004.
