Magasinet i Waxholm

A Magazine with a Long History

The building that houses Magasinet in Waxholm today has roots dating back to the turn of the century, when it functioned as a potato warehouse for merchant Oskar Bothén – one of Vaxholm's most renowned merchants of his time. He had a contract with the Crown and was the main supplier of potatoes, among other things to Vaxholm's Castle.

In 1945 the property was purchased by Einar Löfdahl and Svensson, who started the smithy Vaxholms Värme, Vatten & Smide. In the large forge, details for buildings were smithed – including Waxholm's Hotel – as well as pipes, conduits and horseshoes. Horseshoe forging took place mainly on Torggatan 20, right up until 1960 when the last horses disappeared from Vaxholm's streets.

Today Magasinet in Waxholm houses a bistro, an interior design shop, an event space and a yoga studio.
