Örskär - Bo, upplev, konferera

Örskär is an island in the outer archipelago of Uppland, immediately north of Gräsö. To the north and east lies open sea. The island covers approximately 400 hectares, and most of it is a nature reserve. The island has several natural habitats: barren outer archipelago coastline with sea buckthorn, rocky pine forest with old-growth character and marshes in the north. On the western part of the island there is a cultural landscape with coastal grazing, resumed after a break of more than 50 years. In spring and autumn, Örskär is a location for birdwatching, and white-tailed eagles are visible almost every day. The flora is rich and 18 of the country's 24 orchid species have been found on the island. The lighthouse was built in 1738-39 according to designs by court architect Carl Hårleman. The lighthouse and lighthouse premises are a state protected monument. The lighthouse is a navigation lighthouse and still in operation, and SMHI has a weather station on the island. To visit Örskär, day trips are available during the season and accommodation can be rented at the lighthouse premises. Day trip: On a day trip you can walk along the cultural and nature trails and visit the lighthouse premises. In the old lighthouse keeper's residence there is a café where archipelago lunch is served. Only a limited number of visitors can be accommodated per trip, and archipelago lunch is included in the day trips. Tours run on Saturdays in spring and autumn, larger groups by request on other days, and Tuesday to Sunday during summer. The facility is open May to September.
