Norrö courthouse stands by the old district road from Stockholm. Here the Åker ship district held its autumn assizes during the years 1724 to 1834, while the spring assizes were held at Wira ironworks.
The oldest part of the building is thought to be from the 1600s. After 1834 and until the 1950s the courthouse was a private residence. After that the house stood empty and decayed badly. The local heritage association started a rescue operation and obtained a lease agreement in 1983.
Today the upper floor is a school museum with a schoolroom with old desks and teaching materials from the end of the 1700s. The ground floor is rented out to the Österåker handicraft guild.
