Östra Ryd Church

The church's oldest part, the sacristy, is from the 1300s. That there was a church on the site at this time is evident from old notes that a bishop's visitation took place in 1303. The church got its present appearance during a thorough extension and rebuilding in 1690–1693. Then the nave's northern and southern walls were broken open and the two transepts were added, which gave the building its character of a cruciform church. In the same period the Brahe family's burial vault in the east and the tower building in the west were added. Östra Ryd church has a collection of paintings unique among our country's churches, with works from the 1500s, 1600s and 1700s. Most have been donated by members of the Brahe family. From there it is a 2 km walk to the church. You can also take bus 629 to Östra Ryds kyrkväg and then walk 700 m.
