St Peter's Church

Petruskyrkan is located in Stocksund in Danderyd Municipality, just north of Stockholm. The church belongs to Danderyd Parish in the Stockholm Diocese and was inaugurated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1962. Plans for a church in the then young suburban community had been discussed for a long time, and both a church sewing society and a church building society were engaged for many decades to realize the construction.

It is architect Jan Wahlman who designed the church, whose design is carefully adapted to the undulating landscape. The building rises on a hill in the residential area and is therefore called the church on the cliff – the architect's idea was that it should appear to grow directly out of the rock. The base is made of natural stone, the roofs are covered with copper sheeting and the outer walls are brick-built in Flemish bond. The architect strove for a bright church interior with simplicity and authenticity in material selection.

Art and Furnishings

The choir is adorned with a large glass cross created by Dagmar Lodén, and on the wall above the baptismal font hangs a medieval crucifix with the Christ figure dated to around 1350. The baptismal font in oak was made by furniture craftsman Jörgen Andersson, with an accompanying baptismal bowl in silver by silversmith Bengt Liljedahl, who also created communion vessels and other silver objects. The church's current organ is a mechanical organ built in 1967, made of Yugoslav oak according to designs by Jan Wahlman.
