Rådmansö

Rådmansö offers rare nature, culture, entertainment and adventure. Here there are bathing spots and campsites with cottages, activity companies, hire of kayaks, sailing boats and rowing boats. For those who want to explore the peninsula and stay overnight, there are accommodation facilities and conference options. Cafés, restaurants and an award-winning bakery shop also await here. Furthest out on Rådmansö, by the Furusund channel, lies Kapellskär, where the ferries go to Åland, Finland and Estonia. Right next to it is Riddersholm's 650-hectare easily accessible nature reserve. You get there by car, boat, bus or bicycle. Visitors come all year round - campers, hikers, ornithologists, bathers and photographers. 19 kilometres of well-marked walking paths stretch along the shore sections and across the varied landscape with many unusual species and biotopes. On the mill slope next to the post mill from the 1770s flourishes Sweden's densest stand of cowslips. Around Gunnarsmaren grow orchids and ramsons. In the reserve there are Uppland's largest contiguous deciduous groves with ash and really old oaks, hazel, marshlands and meadows with many red-listed species. The Kapellskär holiday village offers, among other things, a hostel, camping, cottages, a guest harbour, a launch ramp and bathing. At Kapellskär large parts of the Russian army landed in 1719. Here grows a type of grass that is otherwise only found in Ukraine - crested hair-grass. Probably there were grass seeds in the warhorses' fodder that remained and took root in the horses' droppings. Here there is a carving from 1752, when King Adolf Fredrik lay with his fleet at Kapellskär on his way towards Finland. The Estonia cross at Kapellskärsudden was erected after the disaster on the Baltic Sea in 1994. The cross stands on the part of the Swedish mainland that is closest to the accident site. The boatswain's croft Sladdstycket is a small local heritage museum located next to the bathing spot at Kapellskärsudden. Gräddö lies almost furthest out on Rådmansö with Lidö as the nearest island and Havssvalget out towards the Sea of Åland beyond. Here there is Kvarnudden's café and restaurant with a beautiful view over Norrtäljeviken. Kayak hire, courses and arranged kayak tours are offered at Gräddö jetty. On Gräddö there is also an ICA shop, postal service, a guest harbour with a marine fuel station, a steamboat jetty and a boatyard. Björkö-Örn has a bathing spot with a sandy beach and a large campsite with a kiosk. Gräddö was formerly an important fishing village, seafaring place and home port for many Roslagen vessels. During the 1920s-30s the guesthouse business flourished - before the Second World War there were five guesthouses on Gräddö. Waxholmsbolaget's flagship "Norrtelje" served the Stockholm-Norrtälje route for a long time, and one of the larger steamboat jetties was Gräddö. In 1959 Vikinglinjen started its Åland traffic from Gräddö steamboat jetty. Seafaring has long had a prominent place on Rådmansö. First wood vessels and sand barges, then steamboats and ferries. In 1900 there were as many as 33 vessels here, and the steamboat jetties were many on Rådmansö. Before 1950, Rådmansö municipality was Sweden's largest archipelago municipality before it was merged with Frötuna and in 1971 was incorporated into the greater municipality of Norrtälje. In Rådmansö church from 1819 there are several war trophies from the Thirty Years' War, including the altarpiece and the pulpit. Next to the church lies Rådmansö royal manor, which is an old crown estate. The farm Ösbyholm by Holmsjön offers a lake-rich, beautiful landscape with a burial ground. On the lake's northern shore there is an accessible bathing spot, fine walking paths and a simple campsite. Transport Kapellskär From Stockholm - drive the E18 northwards towards Norrtälje and Kapellskär. Travel time about 1 hour and 10 minutes. SL bus runs between Norrtälje and Kapellskär. Waxholmsbolaget serves Kapellskär during parts of spring and during the summer. The bus stop is about one kilometre from the jetty. Parking is available nearby. Raise the semaphore at the jetty if you want to travel with the boat. Kapellskär jetty is not accessibility-adapted. Jetty position Latitude 59,71804 Longitude 19,07109 Räfsnäs Waxholmsbolaget serves Räfsnäs all year round, and from here boats go to Fejan, Tjockö, Lidö and Arholma, among others. The service does not run as often year-round, so check the current timetable when you plan your archipelago trip. SL bus runs to and from Räfsnäs from Norrtälje bus station. Get off at the Räfsnäs brygga stop. Parking is available nearby. Raise the semaphore at the jetty if you want to travel with the boat. Räfsnäs jetty is not accessibility-adapted. There is a kiosk near the jetty, but the opening hours may be limited. Jetty position Latitude 59,752 Longitude 19,0811 Gräddö There is boat traffic to and from Gräddö during parts of spring and summer. SL bus runs here from Norrtälje bus station. Get off at the Gräddö torg stop, which is about 350 metres from the jetty. There are a few parking spaces near the quay. Gräddö jetty is not accessibility-adapted.
