Rävsten

Rävsten is an island just outside Gräsö in the Roslagen archipelago. Rävsten offers the visitor access to open sea and long unexploited shores with sheltered bays and inlets. Along part of the shores there are rounded rocks with good opportunities for bathing and fishing. The eastern part is owned by the Uppland Foundation, while the western part is in private ownership. The island is easy to walk and varied. The habitat types lie like a mosaic with land-elevation forests, rocky-ground pine forests, hay meadows, bays and sounds, sea-shore meadows, wooded meadows and forest pastures. The nature on Rävsten is shaped by centuries of cultivation, and a large part of the island is affected by grazing, haymaking and arable farming. The long history of land use has given rise to a very rich flora and fauna. The meadowlands are still kept open through grazing or haymaking. On the island there are also pollarded trees of ash, birch and whitebeam. The northern Roslagen coast has very high natural values and the presence of many rare and threatened species. Rävsten constitutes a representative and important part of this landscape, and the eastern part of the island is protected under Natura 2000. On Rävsten there are 18 cottages for rent with a total of 93 beds. There are also walking paths, play meadows, bathing, a sauna, a hot tub, rowing boats, barbecue spots and a kiosk. There is also the possibility of hiring a kayak, SUP boards and fishing equipment. Day visitors are picked up at Äspskär jetty on southern Gräsö, booking 0173-360 18.
