Rimbo Church

There is evidence that there have been churches here before. The first one, which was of wood, was replaced during the 1200s by one of stone. The original paintings, which were largely destroyed by liming, were restored as recently as 1900. The paintings are of great interest and show the seven sacraments that the church administered before the Reformation and that still remain today, in the Catholic Church. When the church was renovated in modern times, the medieval altar slab was found, laid as a "lid" on the Horn family's burial vault. It has now been given its rightful place again on the altar. The sacrament cabinet comes from an earlier church, made in the 1300s. The church's communion chalice and paten from the 1300s are counted among the most valuable of their kind in Sweden. The church is under the protection of the apostle Andrew, which can be seen from the diagonal cross on the left gable. The votive candle holders under the gallery were designed by the rural dean Svante Hagman and made by the smith Curt Wägerth at Wira ironworks. On the eastern gable a rune stone is built into the wall; it reads: "Anund and Erik and Håkon and Ingvar raised this stone in memory of Ragnar, their brother. May God help his spirit."
