It is believed that there was a wooden church or chapel in Rö as early as the beginning of the 1200s. The present church was built in the late 1200s but has been rebuilt on several occasions, including after a fire in the 1600s.
In the 1400s the vaults were built, and at the same time the walls and ceiling were given their rich decoration by an unknown artist from the district. The church is consecrated to Saint Olof, who can be seen in the form of a sculpture from the Middle Ages, as well as a sculpture of the highest artistic value of a Gothic Madonna. The triumphal crucifix is from the 1400s and became the altar adornment during a late renovation. Rö church's yellow bell tower also forms the entrance to the churchyard. It began to be built in 1806 by the parish.
