Roslagsleden
Roslagsleden is a 190-kilometre hiking trail from Danderyd to Grisslehamn — one of the Nordic branches of the European long-distance trail E6. Eleven stages through forest, farmland and coast, suited to everything from day trips to a full week of hiking.
A trail with character
Roslagsleden stretches 190 km (19 mil) along the Uppland coast, from Mörby in Danderyd in the south to the coastal town of Grisslehamn in the north. The trail is part of the European hiking network E6, which runs all the way from Turkey through Finland — Grisslehamn is the Swedish junction point towards Åland and the Nordic continuations.
Along the trail you'll encounter a Roslagen in constant variation: wilderness close to urban areas that transitions into lake landscapes, open farmland, historic industrial heritage sites and finally an archipelago character that fades out towards the sea. It's a trail that suits both those who want to hike a single day trip and those who take on the entire stretch over a week.
Eleven stages from south to north
The trail is divided into 11 stages of varying length — from just over 9 km to 25 km — which allows for flexible planning. Each stage ends near a bus stop or train station, making it easy to adapt the hike to your time and stamina.
- Stage 1: Danderyd – Karby Gård
- Stage 2: Karby Gård – Örsta
- Stage 3: Örsta – Lövhagen
- Stage 4: Lövhagen – Domarudden
- Stage 5: Domarudden – Wira Bruk
- Stage 6: Wira Bruk – Penningby (22 km)
- Stage 7: Penningby – Vigelsjö (22 km)
- Stage 8: Vigelsjö – Roslagsbro (14 km)
- Stage 9: Roslagsbro – Gåsvik (25 km)
- Stage 10: Gåsvik – Sandviken (9 km, along Väddökanalen)
- Stage 11: Sandviken – Grisslehamn (20 km, coastline towards the Sea of Åland)
History along every step
Roslagsleden is not a purely nature trail — history is embedded in the ground beneath your feet. Early on the route, you pass Viking-age pathways between Edsviken and Hagby gård in Täby, where Iron Age burial grounds and runestones from the 11th century sit alongside grazing land. Further north you reach Wira Bruk, founded in the 1630s and the country's first sword forge — here, swords were forged for the Swedish Crown. The trail also passes Penningby Castle and the well-preserved mill from the 1760s at Kvarngården.
Sights along the way
Along the trail you pass several of Roslagen's most notable sights: the old weapons forge Wira bruk, the medieval castle Penningby Slott, the nature reserve Vigelsjö and Roslagsbro Church. At Domarudden's outdoor recreation area in Österåker there are rest facilities, and the trail ends at the Albert Engström Museum in Grisslehamn, facing out towards the Sea of Åland.

Best time of year
Roslagsleden is best hiked from May to October. Early summer is lush and green, while autumn offers spectacular foliage colours in the Uppland forests. The summer half of the year is best suited for the northern stages, with swimming opportunities at lakes and along the coast. Winter hikers can enjoy peaceful forests, but some shelters and service points may be closed.
