Roslagsleden - Stage 1
Hike the Roslagsleden trail from Danderyd to Grisslehamn. The trail is 190 km long and divided into 11 stages. Stage 1 runs between Danderyd and Karby gård and is approximately 15 km long.
Stage Overview
Stage 1 is a 15 km walk that launches the entire Roslagsleden trail. From Danderyd, the path leads north through a landscape characterized by oak pastures, forests and lakes. The terrain is somewhat rolling but generally easy to walk and suits those who want to start in a familiar environment close to Stockholm.
Along the Trail
The stage passes through the nature reserves Rinkebyskogen and Rösjöskogen, two well-preserved forest areas with high natural values. Along the lakes Rösjön and Vallentunasjön, the walker encounters runestones from the Viking Age and Iron Age — Roslagen is counted among the world's richest regions for runestone concentration. In Södersättra, deep in the old-growth forest, there is the Jarlabanke Runestone and Iron Age graves that testify to a long settlement tradition in the area. The shoreline of Vallentunasjön offers fine views and good opportunities to see waterfowl. The entire route is marked with orange bands on the trees.
Practical Information
The starting point is located at Danderyd Church from the 1400s, accessible by public transport (SL). There is free parking at Enebybergs IP and at Karby farm where the stage ends. Rest areas with fireplaces are available along the way. Difficulty level: moderate (blue marking). The stage normally takes around 4 hours to complete.
