Roslagsleden - Stage 10

Stage Overview

Stage 10 is the shortest stage of the Roslagsledens trail at 8.7 km. From Gåsvik and Bagghusbron, the trail leads north along the Väddö canal and through older cultivated landscape towards Sandviken's sandy beach at the Åland Sea. The terrain is even and easy to walk. Estimated time is just over 2 hours, difficulty level medium (blue).

Along the Trail

The Väddö canal is the connecting thread of this stage during the first part. The canal was originally dug in the 16th century on the orders of Gustav Vasa and was rebuilt in the 19th century with the help of 300 soldiers assigned to the work. Today the canal is a popular destination for outdoor activities and has historical connections to iron transport from Roslagen's mining district. Along the canal promenade there are opportunities to visit Roslagen's Maritime Museum. The trail then leads through Storängens nature reserve, a cultural landscape with hay meadows and 200-year-old oak trees surrounded by hazel and birch. The stage ends at Sandviken's sandy beach with wide-open views towards the Åland Sea, shallow water line and good swimming facilities. A rest area with a fireplace is located at the beach, and in summer Väddö havsbads camping is an option for overnight stays.

Practical Information

Parking is available at Bagghusbron (start) and Sandviken. The nearest bus stop from the endpoint is Älmsta, approximately 4.5 km away. Toilets at Bagghusbron, Vikingalunden and Sandviken. Difficulty level: medium (blue marking).
