Roslagsleden - Stage 3

Stage Overview

Stage 3 stretches 15.8 km from Örsta, at Angarnssjöängen, northward towards Lövhagen. The terrain is somewhat undulating with gravel roads, forest trails and patches of farmland. The elevation gain along the stage is noticeable and makes the walk one of the more varied on the Roslagsleden. Estimated time is 4 hours.

Along the Trail

Just at the start is one of Stockholm County's most important bird lakes, Angarnssjöängen Nature Reserve, as well as one of the county's largest Bronze Age rock carvings — depicting horses, wagons and boats. Northward the trail passes Römossen and Långmossen, wetland areas with rich flora and fauna. At Brottby farm, a short distance from the trail, stands Össeby Church Ruin, a medieval church probably built in the latter part of the 15th century. Just north of Brottby, the Roslagsleden crosses Långhundraleden — the Vikings' historic waterway between Uppsala and the Baltic Sea, today one of Uppland's longest canoe routes. At Vada the walker encounters large burial mounds, so-called lake mounds, which are ancient mounds from the Iron Age. Brotorp offers a rest stop with a runestone nearby.

Practical Information

The stage begins at the bus stop Örsta and ends at Lövhagen, also accessible by bus. Toilets and rest areas are available at Angarnssjöängen, Össeby IP and Vallentuna IP. Difficulty level: moderate (blue marking).
