Roslagsleden - Stage 11
Hike Roslagsleden from Danderyd to Grisslehamn. The trail is 190 kilometres long and divided into 11 stages. Stage 11 runs between Sandviken and Grisslehamn and is approximately 20 km long.
Stage Overview
Stage 11 is the final stage of Roslagsledens and measures 21 km. From Sandviken's sandy beach at the Åland Sea, the trail leads northward along the Väddö coast towards Grisslehamn, Roslagen's northernmost point towards the sea. The terrain varies between coastal promenades, stone fields, forest and pastures. Difficulty level: moderate (blue). Estimated time is 5.5 hours.
Along the Trail
The entire stage is characterized by proximity to the Åland Sea with repeated views of open water, sandy beaches at Skottviken and historic fishing villages. Nothamn is passed along the way — formerly the largest fishing site along the Väddö coast — and gives a sense of how the coastal population's life looked. Tullviksbäcken nature reserve offers distinctive nature with watercourses and habitat for sea trout, surrounded by mixed forest. The trail reaches Grisslehamn along the shoreline, next to Albert Engström's studio — the artist and author's red studio building on the rocky outcrop is one of the trail's most iconic endings. In Grisslehamn there is a museum dedicated to Engström, a living fishing village and ferry connections to Åland. Roslagsledens connects here to the European E6 trail (St. Olav Way) and links Roslagen's coast with pilgrimage routes on the continent.
Practical Information
Free parking at Sandviken and Kvarnsand (24 h weekdays). Parking without time limit at Grisslehamn sports ground. Drinking water and toilets at Sandviken and Grisslehamn sports ground (summer). Difficulty level: moderate (blue marking). Note: stay still in windy conditions at Tullviksbäcken due to risk of falling dead trees.
