Roslagsleden - Stage 6
Hike Roslagsleden from Danderyd to Grisslehamn. The trail is 190 kilometers long and divided into 11 stages. Stage 6 stretches between Wira bruk and Penningby and is approximately 22 km long.
Stage Overview
Stage 6 is just over 20 km long and takes the hiker from Wira bruk northwards towards Penningby Castle. The terrain varies between rocky forest, open fields and cultural landscape. The stage is classified as moderate (blue) and is estimated to take approximately 5.5 hours.
Along the Trail
The hike begins in Wira bruk's well-preserved industrial heritage site with old smithies and red timber houses. The trail continues through Grevinnans Rå nature reserve, a forest area with rocky heaths and shelters with fireplaces. At Gunnsjön there is a fine bathing spot with sandy beach and jetty. Bergshamra offers Kvarngården's well-preserved mill facility from the 1700s, surrounded by legendary rapids; a shelter, fireplace and toilet make it a natural stopping point. The stage concludes at Penningby Castle, built as a medieval fortress stronghold towards the end of the 1400s. In the castle's immediate surroundings there are runestones from the Viking Age. The trail is consistently marked with orange ribbons.
Practical Information
Parking is available at Wira bruk, Kvarngården (Bergshamra) and Penningby Castle. Drinking water is available at Kvarngården (summer) and at Linneladan at the end. Bathing opportunities at Gunnsjön and Morabadet along the stage. Public transport with SL reaches both endpoints. Difficulty level: moderate (blue marking).
