Rydboholm Castle has roots from the Middle Ages and is first mentioned in writing in the 1400s. The castle was then rebuilt into a manor seat — that is, an estate that was exempt from tax.
Here Gustav Vasa grew up and spent his childhood. The manor had many farming areas in the municipality. Rydboholm was the largest manor in the Stockholm area.
The castle got its present appearance in the 1700s, when the large English park was also laid out. Rydboholm Castle has been owned by the Brahe family and its descendants from the 1500s right up to today.
Nearby lies Östra Ryd church. Here there is a large art collection donated by the lords of the castle, the Brahes of Rydboholm.
Rydboholm Castle is a private residence and not open to the public.
