Sätraäng Church

Sätraängskyrkan is a district church located at Sätra vicarage in the northwestern corner of Danderyd parish, within the Diocese of Stockholm. The vicarage's history dates back to the 17th century, when an area of land was donated to the parish and a vicarage was built. Over the centuries the building stock at the property fell into disrepair on several occasions, but the farm has been restored and is today the vicar's official residence.

A church in the lodge's footsteps

The present church building came about as the need for a larger place of worship grew. Architect Bo Grefberg in Stocksund drew up a proposal which involved demolishing an old, dilapidated lodge and replacing it with a church of the same size. The proposal was accepted, and in autumn 1984 the new church was inaugurated. At its ten-year anniversary it received its current name Sätraängskyrkan. The building is a red-painted wooden church with a rectangular floor plan, a gabled roof covered with tiles and a church interior with a three-sided pitched ceiling clad in wood paneling.

A freestanding bell tower, erected in 1976 with the help of voluntary contributions, stands beside the church. In the tower hang two bells made by Bergholtz bell foundry in Sigtuna. Among the church's furnishings is a wooden altarpiece created by Sister Lydia from the Daughters of Mary at Vallby church, with images depicting the Annunciation, the risen Christ and Pentecost. On the altar stands a Byzantine cross with a base made from floorboards from Danderyd church, and the organ with five stops is built by Walter Thür Orgelbyggen in Torshälla.
