Singö has been inhabited since the Middle Ages but belonged to Häverö parish. In the late 1500s, permission was granted to build a chapel on the island, thereby avoiding the long and perilous boat journey to Häverö Church.
In 1753 the little chapel was replaced by a timber church, which still stands in place today. In the church there has been a frigate since the day of inauguration. The district was poor, which the Roslagen chronicler described thus in 1805: "the church's silver stock consists of a teaspoon". Thanks to a donation from the rich ironworks locality of Harg, there is a large, precious altar cabinet from the 1400s made by a master wood-carver from Lübeck. Under a stone with the text "an unknown sailor" in the churchyard rests a representative of the men who never returned. Singö church lies on the north side of the churchyard. The church has room for about 110 people.
