Forest, lake and water views in Österåker

Sjöslingan is a 12-kilometre circular trail in Trastsjöskog forest northeast of Margretelund in Österåker municipality. The trail offers beautiful views over Lake Södersjön and is excellent for families with children and those seeking a half-day hike in varied Roslagen nature.

Swimming, fishing and barbecue areas

Along the shores of Södersjön there are several picnic areas with benches and tables. Here you can take a dip in the lake during summer, and those with a fishing permit can fish along the shore. Barbecue areas near the trail make it possible to combine your hike with a grilling session by the water.

Trastsjöskog

The forest is old and varied — 200-year-old pines mix with noble deciduous forest and swamp forest. The area also features a number of constructed boardwalks over marshland, signs about the forest's different tree species and a nature playground. Trastsjöskog can be reached from several points; one of the entrances is via Hackstavägen.

Connection to Skogsslingan

Sjöslingan connects to Skogsslingan (5.6 km), which offers the possibility of extending your walk and exploring more of Trastsjöskog. Altogether, the area offers a trail of over 17 kilometres for those who want to go further.

Sjöslingan is marked on Naturkartan (naturkartan.se) and on the Österåker map. The trail is suitable for the whole family including younger children. Bring bathing gear during the summer months and check current fire regulations if you plan to barbecue.
